Counselling in Perth

Welcome to Jeannie Minchin counselling and psychology practice located in Mount Lawley in Perth, Western Australia.

Life is full of ups and downs and at some point, everyone encounters stressors that challenge the way we behave and respond to ourselves, others, and the environment around us.   Sometimes you can work through these stressors yourself, and other times  you may feel that accessing counselling is a sensible option.

Counselling offers a safe space to explore issues that you are struggling with, where you can be listened to without being judged, and where alternative perspectives can be offered without telling you what you should or shouldn’t do.  You do not need to have a diagnosed mental illness in order to see a psychologist to seek counselling.

Counselling can also help you to identify patterns of behaviour, and help you to become more aware of how you are thinking and feeling so that you can respond differently.  It can also help you to examine your underlying core beliefs that maintain patterns of unwanted behaviour that are causing unnecessary distress to you and others around you.

Whether you are seeking counselling for the first time, or you have already had past counselling experiences, it is still important to be discerning when looking for a psychologist or counsellor to help you through your difficulties.  As them questions about how they work, and don’t be afraid to keep looking until you find someone who feels right for you.  I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of the healing process.  Sometimes it may feel like a leap of faith, but I encourage you to talk about this with the counsellor so that any fears or hesitations that you may have can be addressed openly.
